Project Example - Woodcroft College
After building a new Early Learning Centre, Woodcroft College approached me about a 2 week Artist in Residency in which 2 artworks would be created for the new centre.
Full of fun, life and colour the new centre wanted to showcase their theme of “In the Environment”. Once we’d taken a tour of the facilities we agreed on a suitable site and from here I came up with a couple of sketches for us to review together. I used the colours of the hard and soft architecture around the space which enabled the artwork to sit lightly in the environment and enhance the area. Upon providing the school with photoshopped examples of the artwork in place we were all extremely excited to get the project underway.

I worked with the school to find a suitable two week period in their calendar. We created a work space inside their gallery where classes could come in and watch me create the art. I love working with young people and engaging them with my process and their understanding of art. Over the two week period classes booked into 15 minute time slots where they could come in and view my working process. I provide a short chat about the design process, the actual process of creating the art and what my career looks like as an artist. Allowing plenty of time for questions helps get the best engagement from students and piques their interest. This informal discussion allows the students to feel connected to and invested in the artwork that lies in their school environment.

At the end of the two week period I bring the artwork to my studio and apply anti graffiti coatings. The school was delighted with the final product and the pieces now proudly sit in their new home. They are a constant reminder of the wonderful learning opportunities that outdoor art and murals can provide.
